At Mayflower High School, we provide every student with a rich and varied learning experience, ensuring they achieve Success, Happiness, and Opportunity, regardless of their background or starting point. This ethos is embedded in every aspect of our curriculum, pastoral care, and daily life.

Our curriculum aims to be both ambitious and inclusive. It is planned around 4 key questions:

  • What is taught and why?
  • Is everyone challenged?
  • Is there clarity of progression and objectives?
  • Does the curriculum have a clear impact?

It is carefully structured so that subject leaders continually reflect on content, ensuring that students not only master key concepts but can also make meaningful connections across subjects. We believe in challenging all students, knowing that those who engage with demanding work—supported by the right scaffolding—become successful and, importantly, happy learners.

We aim to empower our students to actively contribute to society, both during their time at Mayflower and beyond. Through a range of embedded strategies across all subject areas, we inspire students to become lifelong learners and active members of their local, national, and global communities. From KS3 to KS5, our curriculum is designed to maximise both academic and social growth, preparing students for success in their future studies and careers.

Our broad and balanced curriculum ensures that students in Years 7-9 study the full range of National Curriculum subjects, laying a strong foundation for success at Key Stages 4 and 5. This journey builds on prior knowledge and skills, helping students to thrive in their chosen fields of study.

Beyond the taught curriculum, we offer numerous opportunities for personal development. Our wide range of extra-curricular activities, including clubs before and after school as well as during lunch, ensures that students can grow academically, socially, and personally.

Additionally, we offer a variety of trips and visits, enriching our students’ experiences and helping them to develop into well-rounded individuals.
