Uniform Requirements

General Guidelines:

There is no separate summer or winter uniform; all items can be worn year-round.

Years 7-11 Uniform:
  • Black blazer with school badge*.
  • Plain black tailored trousers (bootleg, flared, jeans, and tight-fitting styles are not allowed).
  • Plain white polyester/cotton shirt (traditional style, long or short-sleeved; blouses are not permitted).
  • Black knee-length skirt with school badge (available from Schoolwear Centres only).
  • Mayflower High School tie in Year colour.
  • Plain black ankle socks or natural/black tights (patterned tights are not acceptable).
  • Plain black formal shoes (no boots, trainers, or trainer-style shoes allowed; heels must not exceed 5cm).
  • Plain black V-necked collarless sweater (optional; cardigans are not allowed).

*Note: The blazer should be a traditional style with a patch pocket. If there is any doubt, a sample is available at school.

Outdoor Wear

Students may choose their outdoor wear, which should be smart and appropriate. Denim jackets, hooded tops, tracksuit tops, or leisurewear are not acceptable. Caps are not allowed indoors, and students should not wear outdoor garments (coats, scarves, gloves, hats) inside school buildings.

Make-Up and Jewellery

Make-Up: Not allowed for students in Years 7-9; discreet make-up is permitted for Years 10 and up. Nail varnish, false nails, and false eyelashes are not allowed.

Jewellery: No jewellery is allowed for students in Years 7-11, except for watches. A single small stud (no more than 5mm in diameter) is acceptable for pierced ears. No facial piercings or flesh tunnels are permitted.

Hair

Hairstyles must be appropriate for school—neither excessively long nor exceptionally short. No designs or unnatural colours are allowed. Long hair must be tied back for safety. Please contact the school if unsure about a new hairstyle’s acceptability.

PE Kit

All students must have from September 2025:

  • Black t-shirt with logo
  • Black Mayflower shorts/leggings/skort or tracksuit bottoms

Students can opt to have

  • Black Mayflower ¼ zip
  • Black Mayflower rain jacket

All Students can have until July 24

  • Red polo shirt with school emblem
  • Red sweatshirt with school emblem (for outdoor fitness and netball)
  • Plain black shorts
  • Plain black full-length sports leggings (must not be fashion leggings; optional)
  • Plain black tracksuit/jogging bottoms (optional)
  • Black or red thermal long-sleeve top (optional)
  • White over-the-ankle sports socks
  • Sports trainers

For Rugby and Football:

  • Red reversible rugby jersey
  • Gum shields
  • Shin pads
  • Plain red football socks
  • Black/navy beanie hat/headband and gloves
  • Football boots (not Astroturf trainers)

For Swimming:

  • Black/navy swimming trunks/shorts/jammers
  • Plain black/navy one-piece swimming costume
  • Swimming hat (any colour)
  • Goggles
  • Microfibre swimming towel (recommended)

The PTFA regularly have preloved sales for school uniforms and all proceeds are put back into our school. The PTFA will accept any uniform donations that are in good condition.

Responsibility for Clothing and Personal Items

Please ensure that all clothing and belongings are clearly labelled with your child’s name. When lost property is handed in, it can be easily returned to its owner if named. Unnamed clothing will be held in the Lost Property area, which students can access at all times. Please note that the school cannot be held responsible for the loss of personal items and is not insured for them.

Liability

All items of uniform and PE kit must be clearly labelled with the student’s name and tutor group. Students are expected to be responsible for their belongings. The school does not accept responsibility for any lost, stolen, or mislaid items.
